Job Information | Seeking hard working candidate with good communication and organizational skills and a strong background in biology, with emphasis vector borne disease ecology. Successful candidate will collect, identify, enumerate, process and analyze vectors (mostly mosquitoes), using typical laboratory techniques and methods. Candidates should be comfortable in field and laboratory settings, have strong interpersonal communication skills, and be well trained in the scientific method, especially as it relates to vector borne disease ecology and epidemiology. Duties include setting and retrieving vector traps in swamps and wetlands, working in conditions that may expose them to insect bites, and working with infectious agents in a laboratory setting. Candidates should have a strong desire to support research on vector borne diseases, and will be expected to participate in research projects and other duties.
Minimum qualifications: BS or BA degree in Biology or a related discipline is preferred. Experience in vector control will be preferred. Other qualifications include a valid driver’s license and insurability and a pesticide applicator certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Successful candidate must pass a reference check and criminal background screen, and may be asked to participate in a pre-employment drug screen and medical exam. Salary/Wage Range: $28.02 – $37.55 per hour depending on experience. Hours and Duration: Monday – Thursday 6:30am – 5:00pm / 6-7 Months, Special events could change this work schedule. Job Information | Do you enjoy the outdoors? Are you interested in helping your community? If so, Clackamas County Vector Control District may have the position for you. We have several openings for self-motivated individuals who enjoy interacting with the public. You will be working outside, with limited supervision, protecting the community from the annoyance of mosquitoes and diseases such as West Nile virus. For those studying and teaching Agriculture, Biology or other applied sciences this position is an excellent resume builder and offers you an opportunity to gain field experience in sampling techniques and data collection. Seasonal positions start at $23.00 per hour, pay is increased upon successful acquisition of the Oregon Public Pesticide Applicators License.
*CCVCD has set up an ‘End of Season Bonus’ of $1,000.00, per Seasonal Employee, as long as all conditions are satisfied. Mosquito season generally runs March through September. Time off during this time is expected to be kept to a minimum. Seasonal field technicians are regularly scheduled to work 6:30am-5:00pm Monday through Thursday. Special events could change this work schedule. Must pass ODA Public Pesticide Applicator exam within 30 days of hire. Study materials are provided.
